2011 Indiana Slab Masters Classic Tournament Story

The Indiana Slab Masters Inaugural 2-day Classic was held at Mississinewa Lake on Saturday, and Salamonie on Sunday this past weekend September 24th and 25th.

After a long, hot, dry summer, the year end classic welcomed our members with more on again then off again rain throughout both days of the tournament. It was not a tournament for the faint hearted as there was wind, rain, and cool temperatures to overcome, along with tough fishing for most.

Coming out on Top was the team of Glenn Gill and Tom Hankins. Glenn and Tom spider rigged 13'-16' deep both days on main lake flats using electric chicken colored Lake Fork Baby Shad tipped with Shiners to capture the top spot. Their two day total of 12.95 lbs. consisted of a 6.22 lb. first day on Mississinewa, and backing it up with a 6.73 lb. second day on the Salamonie. This is Glenn and Tom's first Indiana Slab Masters win, and it came at the right time. These men showed poise and determination to become our first classic champs. Congratulations Glenn and Tom! Great Job and the entire club is proud of you!

nd Finishing in 2nd place is the team of Paul and Charlie Hildreth with a 2-day total of 12.34 lbs. Paul and Charlie spider rigged main lake points with blue & chartreuse and purple & chartreuse Southern Pro tubes tipped with Shiners. Paul and Charlie are the 2011 B'n'M points champs and have had a very strong year. They have been the team to beat. They had a very consistent weigh-in each day with a 6.08 first day and back it up with a 6.27 lb. 2nd day. Great Job men, and congratulations on an excellent year!

Finishing in third place is another very tough team for this year, Tony Williams and Tim Dunigan. Tony and Tim spider rigged sparkle green and chartreuse Southern Pro tubes tipped with shiners with a two day total weight of 11.77 lbs. Tony and Tim were the first day leaders with a 7.03 lb 7-fish limit and won the 1st day big fish award with a 1.48 lb. crappie. These guys have had a very good year, with a top 5 finish in 3 of the 4 regular season events they fished this year. Good Job men!

Finishing in 4th place is the team of Doug Sikora and Gary "Woody" Woodcock with a two day total of 11.28 lbs. Doug and wood struggled a bit on day 1 with a 4.70 lb 1st day but came back strong on day 2 with a 6.58 second day weight. Doug and Woody were fishing with Crappie Pro jigs with Yum Vibra King tubes and HHD hand tied jigs. Doug and Woody have had a solid year. Great job men!

Finishing in 5th place is the team of Gary and Allen Reed with a two day total weight of 11.24 lbs. Allen and Gary were spider rigging orange and chartreuse Southern Pro tubes tipped with minnow to take the 5th place spot. Allen and Gary have had a solid year, finishing in the top 10 in the B'n'M points race and more than one top 5 finish this year. Great job men!

The second day big fish was won by Jeramie McCullum with a 1.24 lb. slab. We are very proud of all of our winners and the participation of all the members who helped make our first year a very successful one.

We would like to give out a special thanks to Russ Bailey who was our celebrity weighmaster and the two men that assisted with the weigh in. We would also like to thank Bozarth's Campground and Recreational Resort for the use of their facility and providing the weigh in facility. We would also like to thank each of our sponsors for the 2011 season. Thanks also goes out to each and every one of our members for their participation to help us to have the successful season we have. The 2012 season kick off tournament will be at Geist Lake on October 29th. We hope to see anyone that is interested in learning more about crappie fishing this upcoming year.
